Millie McColl – Future Star nominee

At the age of just six years Millie McColl decided to raise money for the hospital that helped to save her little brother’s life.

The Wombourne schoolgirl ran the equivalent of a marathon during the month of August and has raised more than £400 to date.

The money is being donated to the children’s ward at Russell Hall Hospital in Dudley where Millie’s two-year-old brother, Hugh, has been treated.

Proud mum Nichola McColl has nominated Millie in the Future Star category of the Your Heroes Awards.

She said: “Millie asked me a few months what charity was and I explained this to her and we discussed different ways people raise money for charity.

“She told me she wanted to run a marathon, so we decided on a marathon month. For the month of August we have been running a marathon and she has done amazing.

“She chose Russell Hall’s children’s ward to raise money for as they saved her little brother’s life multiple times and she gets so excited talking about how the money is going to help poorly children and the kind nurses.

“She’s been an inspiration and I know this is only the start of her charity fundraising.

“We’re really proud of her, particularly as she was the one who approached me and said that she wanted to do it. I’m proud that she took and initiative and wanted to do something to help other people.”
