NHS Hero nominee – Dr Mark Nash

Alongside his job as a senior consultant anaesthetist at University Hospitals of North Midlands, Dr Mark Nash is a pre-hospital emergency medicine doctor for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Mark, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, resident has been nominated as an NHS Hero by the charity for his “unfaltering dedication to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s day-to-day lifesaving service.”

He also contributes expert strategic input and innovative thinking towards the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, which continues to drive forward excellence in pre-hospital patient care within Staffordshire and the wider Midlands area.

Mark has worked with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity since 2007. He has been the organisation’s Medical Director since 2022. His dedication and commitment helped the charity achieve an overall outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission in 2024.

His help in driving the development of critical care paramedic practice since becoming Medical Director has been pivotal and allowed the introduction of the service’s critical care cars – enabling the charity to operate a 24/7 model for delivering pre-hospital emergency care and saving countless lives.

Mark has been a senior Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in major trauma at the University Hospitals of North Midlands since 2005.

He trained in London and the South of England, including a registrar position with London’s Air Ambulance, creating and delivering the Critical Care Paramedic programme at the University of Hertfordshire for more than 10 years and serving as a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps Territorial Army Reserves for five years.

Mark is Chairman of the North Staffordshire BASICS scheme and holds the position of Medical Advisor for West Midlands Ambulance Service.
